Set contents and purpose of components
-
Camshaft setting/locking tool – used to set and hold the camshafts in the required installation position. The design also allows work on camshaft sprocket fastenings.
-
Bridge / chain support tool – secures the chain together with the camshaft sprockets and helps keep the timing components in the correct position during service.
-
Tensioner guide wedge – used to work with the tensioner guide/slide and enables unloading of the system during service operations on the chain.
-
Assembly pin – a special pin used when servicing the blind plug in the timing cover/housing that provides access to the tensioner mechanism.
-
Special socket T100
-
Carrying case – a profiled housing that facilitates storage of the set and reduces the risk of losing individual components.
Why use the M271 locking tool?
Precise timing setting is particularly important when working on the chain, camshaft sprockets and tensioner. Dedicated tools allow the camshafts to be set in the installation position and the chain to be secured against uncontrolled movement.
After completing the installation, the tool documentation recommends manually rotating the engine by at least two full rotations and rechecking the timing. Torque values and the procedure specific to a particular engine code should always be taken from the vehicle's service documentation.
